Some of the Santas ready to go

Santa Stride 2016.
Over 400 Santas were treated to the perfect weather conditions for a leisurely or not so leisurely walk along the Trailway. There were 50 registered serious runners intending to complete the 7 mile course. These were set off by Andrew Donaldson, the mayor of Sturminster Newton, resplendent in his Santa suit and chain of office, early at 9.30 am to allow them an unimpeded run. The remaining Striders were seperated into 3 groups, dependent upon ability, and set off from 11 am. Before leaving however, thanks to the efforts of Yasar and Layla of Poets Corner Cafe, delicious bacon rolls were available for breakfast at a modest charge. On the return of the Striders, festive food and drink was freely available, thanks to the generosity of Honey Buns, Sturminster Newton Rotary and the Service Users of The Disabled Education Centre at Stour Castle.
This was a record breaking year for numbers attending and we can only hope that sponsorship donations will show a proportional increase and beat the £4000 total achieved last year.
Sturminster Newton Rotary thank you all for supporting this event and making it such a pleasant and joyful way to start off the Christmas Season. We hope you all enjoyed taking part in the event as much as we did in organising it. We hope to see you all again on 3rd December 2017. Please tell your friends about it and persuade them to come along next year.
Finally a sincere thank you to the manager and staff of TOFS for letting us use their facility and for so generously agreeing to assist in the registration and suit distribution procedures.
